Using animals for scientific purposes
In Western Australia, animals cannot be used or supplied for scientific purposes unless the use is in accordance with the Animal Welfare Act 2002 (the Act), Animal Welfare (Scientific Purposes) Regulations 2003 and a license issued under the Act. A key condition of a license is for the licensee to comply with the Australian Code of Practice for the Care and Use of Animals for Scientific Purposes
The Animal Ethics Committee Terms of Reference document is currently being reviewed, and will be provided for download on this page once that process is completed.
